Garcia's Mexican Food To Go sits along Fredericksburg Road as a compact, no-frills spot where the focus is clearly on hearty, classic Mexican breakfast and lunch fare with a strong local following. Inside, the space is small and often buzzing, creating an immediate sense of community — many patrons seem to know each other, which brings a familiarity to the atmosphere that newcomers quickly pick up on.

This isn't a place for leisurely dining but rather for enjoying straightforward, flavorful plates that lean heavily on tender, smoky brisket and traditional egg dishes. The brisket shows up across several popular options: from tacos and nachos to sandwiches and plates paired with rice, beans, and fresh salads. Breakfast offerings like huevos rancheros and chorizo-and-egg tacos bring a satisfying start to the day, complete with the kind of green and red salsas that pack a local punch.

Because of its size, Garcia's tends to fill up around the lunch rush, and seating might require a short wait if you come after 11 am. The service is attentive and moves things along quickly, making it a practical stop when you’re hungry but pressed for time. Early arrivals before noon will find it especially smooth to settle in without the midday crowd.

Regulars appreciate the friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff, who are happy to guide guests through the menu, which offers a colorful range of choices beyond the brisket, including plates like cheese enchiladas or carne guisada tacos. The overall vibe is casual and grounded, fitting naturally into this part of San Antonio where locals drop by for a substantial meal that feels both authentic and unpretentious.

  • Best for those looking for robust Mexican breakfasts or lunchtime plates with a focus on brisket and traditional flavors
  • Appeals to locals who value good food served efficiently in a familiar, communal environment
  • Arrive before noon to beat the lunch rush and grab a quick, satisfying meal
  • Expect a cozy, bustling space where the seating is limited but the kitchen keeps the plates coming

Wonderful place! I could tell most of the patrons knew each other. Which is indicative of a successful establishment. The menu provided a plethora of options, I went with the steak and eggs. Might have been one-upped by my buddy who got breakfast tacos.

2nd time eating here. The brisket is super tender and full of the smokey pit flavor. The enchilada plate was decent. Service is really good, quick food, seated immediately. But if you arrive around noon prepare for a little wait. You can avoid the lunch crowd if you can arrive about 10:50. Lots of items on the menu to try, everything has been good so far, but the highlight has been the smokey brisket both visits.

Very small, BUT GREAT RESTAURANT! There's usually a wait, but it generally moves along well and is definitely worth the wait. I've tried the pork carne Guisada, brisket taco with Avacado, enchilada plate, and fideo Loco. These dishes were on 2 different visits. The wait staff is nice and very attentive. I'll definitely be returning again.

We found this place listed as the #1 Mexican restaurant in San Antonio. That set the bar really high! We were not disappointed! Even my wife couldn’t stop saying how amazing it was. You have got to get the brisket taco, but even the bacon and egg one was unbelievable. I love chorizo tacos. I was very happy with mine until a had everything else. I couldn’t believe how good everything were had was.

This place is not very big. It was busy and packed when I arrived. Once you are on a list they will call your name, surprisingly it did not take long. Ordered the brisket plate and an enchilada plate. Complementary chips and salsa were delivered to our table. In short time our plates arrived. One taste of the brisket and I could tell this was done right and was cooked perfectly. This plate came with choice of tortillas (flower), rice, refried beans, and salad topped with guacamole. Everything was delicious. On the enchiladas plate it came with two enchiladas with fresh cut onions sprinkled on top of the sauce, rice, refried beans. This plate was also exceptionally tasty. The service even though it was busy was excellent. The interior you can tell is older but with a Mexican decor, pictures, and awards that added a unique charm to the place. It looks like this is a family run business that takes pride in what they do and you can clearly taste it in the food. Easy 5 stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ and highly recommend for a true San Antonio Mexican food experience.
